So I adventures leaving from Indy Airport at 12:40...well actually flight was delayed and I didn't end up leaving til after one. All is well. This is me lookin super fly as a world traveler, with my freaking dark sister Em.
First flight.......3 rows, really?!
yayyy new york! except not yay- JFK is massive! I have only flown going in and out of the same terminal, I've never actually had to navigate the airport. It literally took my an hour to get between my two gates- thank goodness I had the time!
My big plane! I swear, everytime I see these big planes that have the hump on the front, I think they look like a dinosaur! Note the awesome weather...it was cold and rainy in NY =/ Also, while I was sitting there, my phone battery was flashing dead because I'm the fool that packed my phone charger in my suitcase....I figured it was my american phone, I wasn't going to use it past JFK. Luckily the little guy held on so I could call home!
much, much better....i think it was nine wide! I was sitting at the window seat, thank goodness! Oh and funny story, my first seat was suppposed to be the wayyyyyyy back of the plane. But they scanned my ticket and were like oh, it seems your seat is broken. So they moved me up 20 rows! better that than a broken seat lol
yep, like I said, sweet weather to take off in. I was sitting right on the wing- look how long that wing is!
LOL EWWWW. what is this??? they said, pollo or carne? And I was like, well. Pollo I guess. I didn't eat much =/ Also, I took two benadryl and knocked myself out- I'm honestly not sure I remember dinner lol
the plane ride wasn't too bad...I slept the first 3 hours then finished my book. SOME FOOL IN FRONT OF ME KEPT FARTING. I was like really?????? TIGHT SPACES.
But, griping aside, I got to watch a beautiful sunrise as we were coming into Spain...
My first stop on foreign soil! This was quite a treat. I had an hour and 40 minutes in between connections, and man, I needed all of it! I got off the plane, wandered around until I saw we had to go through something that resembled customs. Then I got up to the counter, and the guy said hola so I was like alright, about to break out my spanish. So i was all like, hola! como estas? and he said hablas espanol? and I said, hablo un poco para viajar....and then he was like ohhh italia?? and I said si! Voy a italia para estudar por cinco semanas....and he was totes impressed. Mrs Siewert would be proud! So i was feeling all proud of myself, then I get into this crazy mess called airport security at Madrid. I get rushed through, and I have my laptop, backpack, purse, ziplock baggie with liquids AND my tennis shoes in my hand and am trying to get to a table when my baggie drops- my glass bottle of foundation SHATTERS. I was just like...really? So I got all the other stuff out, which was covered in foundation, and put them all in another baggie (thanks em for making me pack extras) and carried my foundation dripping bag to the nearest trashcan. The foundation that was on my hands I rubbed into my arms because I didn't know what else to do...my arms looked strangely more tan. I finally get situated and find a bathroom near my gate, and washed off the other things in the bag, and alas, no paper towels. I'm scrubbing all my stuff with cheap airport toilet paper...didn't work out so well. REGARDLESS I got my butt on the next plane and I was Venice bound!
I landed in Venice at 11:30, and I waited until after 1 for the first two RAs to get there. The one RA (Janani) landed at 12:10, but they lost her luggage!! So she was left struggling on the other side of security, and finally her and Ashley got it somewhat figured out and made it to my side. Finally, 2 hours after I landed, I was with people I kind of knew! Another hour later we added Emily, and we began our adventure to Paderno. Luckily I'm a super nerd and had read our travel and living guide front to back, so I took the lead as momma ellie to get us on our way! We had to take a bus to a train to a bus to get to Paderno! The dark pic above is us in what we thought was the train station....no such luck. Just this ghetto underground tunnel. We got it sorted out later, and after a bajllion flights of stairs (WITH 50LB LUGGAGE) we got on the train we needed with 3 mins to spare- literally! We then had an hour long train right to Bassano, where we waited an hour for our next bus. During all of this I was using my Italian phrase book....people actually somewhat understood me!
From left to right, this is me, Emily (Iowa), Janani (Kansas) and Ashley (BYU)
Love this pic! We waited here in Bassano for an hour for our bus to Paderno
I got a baby Coke while I was waiting, and here is my book for survival! We made it onto the bus and struggled with our massive luggage (Ashley and I). At one point my luggage, which as 4 wheels, went FLYING down the aisle when I didn't have a good grip on it, all the way to the front of the bus! I was dying laughing, but I don't think the people on the bus found it funny. Plus they didn't understand English!
This is the view from my temporary room....we move into our permanent rooms when the students get here Monday. Just gorgeous!
more views from my window!
so pretty!
this is my tiny little room...I love it though. its cozy for sure!
smallest bathroom ever! Mom it reminded me of the shower on our boat- everything gets wet when you take one!
yep, thats pretty much it! but what a great view!
so small.......................
one final story......i finally got situated and was skyping and talking to people back home when my laptop started to die. My laptop can handle the 240 volts power, so I just got out my adapter. I plugged it in, I heard a little pop, and my whole floor went black! I caused the thing to blow up (literally). We got a guy down at the front gate, and he got it fixed for us.....I definitely made a bang on my first night!
Okay, well I have got to go now, RA training!! I hope everyone enjoys the pictures! Buon gorno!
El
