Ciao!
Sorry I disappeared for a couple days! I am quickly realizing that I am going to be a busy, busy girl while I am here. After the long day in Venice on saturday all of us slept in until mid afternoon. The weather turned cold and rainy, so the nearby farmers market in Crespano that we wanted to go to was closed...darn it. Sunday night we had a faculty party for CIMBA people in the evening. The party was at CIMBA's master's program location, which is in the nearby town of Asolo (it's on the list of 1,000 places to see before you die- look it up!) I unfortunately have no pictures of the town, but I am sure I will be back. At the party were the CIMBA staff, the teachers for the summer program and their families, the RAs for the undergrad program (me!) and the graduate students. The graduate program is a SWEET deal. It is only an 11 month long program (albeit very intense) at the end of which you earn your MBA...sadly its only for business people. Dang. I do have a couple pictures of the view from one of the gradute's rooms, but it truly does not do it justice. I only have a couple pictures from the bbq, so I will stick them at the end of the blog this time!
Today was a WHIRLWIND. I volunteered to truck back to Venice airport to be the official greeter for CIMBA. I also had 100+ peoples flight information and had to make sure everyone was accounted for and on the right bus. Oh, and a minor detail- I don't speak Italian. All the bus drivers today day spoke only Italian, so it made for an interesting day. I had my phrasebook in my back pocket, and I'm fairly certain by the end of the day Antonio and I were best friends. I do know that he has a wife named Mara, two sons that are 23 and 26, both of which are married, and he has 3 grandchildren. Not bad for a language barrier! It was a super long day of being on my feet, but it all went really smoothly! After 9-5 at the airport, I had orientation until dinner, and then two hours before I had to start my RA duties. I was in a temporary room before, so I used that time to shower, do laundry and unpack. At 10 all of the RA had to do night duty, which involved checking every building on campus, as well as walking in every floor of the dorms to make sure people are respecting quiet hours. All was fine, and another RA and myself went to the sports bar to mingle with all the new people. Americans definitely aren't well equipped to handle italian wine- that is for sure. We had rounds again at 12:30, so we only stayed for a little bit and then I finished unpacking. The 12:30 rounds were....well, I'm still rather shocked. Interesting to say the least. It's safe to say that quite a few people will probably sleep through their 8am classes due to alcohol. Yikes!
So, for all you people that are like, what the heck??? doesn't she do anything with school??? The answer is yes, i do! It's not all wine and traveling I promise. Actually, I am going to give you an example of my daily schedule:
8-9:30 am Italian Journeys (writing class)
9:35-11:05 Intercultural Communications
11:30-1 Lunch Duty
2-5 Intercultural Communications
5:15-6:15 Travel Orientation
10pm and 12:30am Night Duty
SEE! I am super busy! We are earning 6 credit hours in 18 days of school- it is going to be a TOUGH course load. It is actually 2:30 in the morning where I am, and I have my first day of school at 8am....that's going to be rough. So, buona sera :)
A keg of wine....only in Italia....
Not entirely sure what/why the hat thing is going on....
I just tried for 20 minutes to get my pictures of Asolo off my internal memory on my camera and I am majorly struggle bussing- gotta get some sleep. If I figure it out I will post them on the next one! Ciao!
Adam's hat was the lid to the keg of wine! Love that pic :) You can even tell we were dancing in the rain!!
